Amelia graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelors of Science in neuroscience, and minors in chemistry and statistics. There, she worked under Anthony Grace studying dopamine system dysfunction in depression and schizophrenia via in vivo electrophysiology and behavioral testing. She also received a fellowship award to design, manufacture, and implement teaching tools for use in undergraduate neuroscience classes.As a graduate student in NYU's Neural Science program, Amelia will investigate the role of astrocytic influence on the blood brain barrier. Specifically, she is interested in how astrocytes communicate with, influence, and are affected by, cells of the periphery and blood brain barrier across diseases.
